Living on a farm all my life and working in manufacturing for 25 years, I'm no stranger to hard work.
I know the efforts and sacrifices that go into farm life and the pride and satisfaction we feel as we overcome endless obstacles to make a living from our land. I also know the fear and anger we feel when our way of life is threatened by bureaucratic regulation and expansion of eminent domain policies. As your representative I will fight for our property rights with every ounce of energy I have and I will do all I can to repeal those senseless regulations that put excessive burdens on property owners.

On the industrial side of the coin, I know full well the hardships people endure due to the lack of jobs in the area.  In the past 20 years we have lost several factories including H. D. Lee, Brown Shoe Co. Tobin Hamilton,  Fordick Corp.,  and Rawlings, among others. Most of the industries that have moved into the area ever since these ones left are smaller companies that employ far fewe people. This obviously makes quality of life more difficult for citizens in our area because the population has continued to grow while our job base has greatly decreased.

Like many people, I've had to collect unemployment as companies were forced to downsize or lay off employees due to economic downturns or foreign competition. I haven't forgotten the sleepless nights wondering how to make ends meet when unemployment benefits were exhausted and there was still no work to be found. I understand the plight of industrial workers because I have suffered through the same struggles that many of you have.  As your representative, one of my top priorities will be to find industrial companies willing to set up shop in our district thus providing jobs for you and your family.

One of the areas that I have the most concern for is our personal liberty.  Many of our rights and freedoms have been taken away under a variety of guises including in the name of safety and security. The federal government believes it knows what’s best for our children to learn in school, regardless of what the parents, teachers, or the school board have to say. I believe education is best left to local school systems and the parents, with very limited involvement from the state.

Our government believes it is okay to restrict our first amendments right of free speech. Just about anything we say these days could possibly be interpreted as "hate-speech".  I believe free speech is a guaranteed constitutional right that cannot be suppressed or removed.

Washington has also chosen to ignore our fourth amendment rights by invading our privacy by monitoring our phones and emails, using wiretaps and other surveillance without a warrant.  American citizens can now be denied the writ of habeas corpus.  How can we let this happen?  Isn't this America, land of the free?

The National Animal Identification System (NAIS) is just another step in the invasion of our privacy.  Missouri is fighting hard against this system and seems to be making some progress in helping our farmers keep their basic freedom and privacy in regard to their animals.

We also have the REAL ID Act, one of the biggest assaults on our freedoms thus far. Many Americans don't know about this Act but it has already been passed in Washington DC. The REAL ID requires that a chip be put in your driver’s license that will contain your personal information so you can readily be identified at any Federal 'checkpoint'. In addition to being a personal invasion into our lives, it opens an even greater risk of identity theft.  Since REAL ID is an unfunded mandate, the states will have to pay the approximate $82 million this will cost to implement. How do we pay for that?  Higher taxes?  Taxes indirectly imposed on us by Washington that we have no say in?  I am opposed to higher taxes.  We need to lower the taxes we already have and find ways to put more of your wages back into your pocket.

I am also opposed to NAFTA, CAFTA, the North American Union (NAU),  the Amero,  and any form of amnesty for illegal immigrants. I will do all that I can at the state level to halt and reverse these drains on our economic society and social way of life.

I believe in the Constitution of the United States of America. I believe in our national sovereignty. I believe in freedom.

As your representative, I will always work toward restoring our freedoms and improving the way of life for Missourians in the 144th District.
My door will always be open.  In order to be an effective voice of the people I need to hear from you. I want to hear your concerns and your solutions to the issues we face now and those we will face in the future.

My plans to stay in contact with you once I get to Jefferson City include maintaining a personal website, an email database,  survey cards, and of course the publications in our local newspapers. I believe periodic listening posts as well as attending organizational and 'town hall' meetings is crucial for proper representation.

I am always open to hearing your suggestions. Please email me at deldavis2008@gmail.com

I look forward to meeting as many of you in person as possible.

May God bless you and may God bless America.
